Ms.
Patil began her art career as a child in India.

“I still remember every year during
summer vacation I used to go to art class. My art teacher’s name was Mr.
Inglay. He taught me the fundamentals of painting but explained to me the real
meaning of art. I also got guidance from Mr. Vaidya. He taught me how to draw
faces and the body. It was really difficult for me but I overcame the
difficulty and excelled in it.

After
moving to the United States, Ms. Patil filled some lonely hours with art-
“first time in my life I was away from my family and friends in a foreign
country. During this time, I focused on my painting, which helped me get
through the initial difficult times.” Then a friend suggested that Vijaya teach
art to children. “What a great way to pursue my passion and give back to
society. Teaching kids and helping them express themselves freely through art
and painting gives me utmost satisfaction and a feeling of fulfillment,” says Ms.
Patil, who teaches neighborhood children along with her two children. Some of
the children’s pictures are currently on display @ your library!

The
Patil art will be on display until August 27.
