Councilman's Publiv Meeting Scheduled For Saturday

Councilman Rob Thibault expects questions about Borough Hall, Peddie Tax Exemption

Hightstown, NJ – Hightstown Councilman Rob Thibault will hold his monthly public meeting on Saturday, July 20 at the Hightstown Library from 10 a.m. to noon.   While there is no set agenda and the Councilman will address any issue or question, Thibault said he expects the location of Borough Hall and the special exempt status of Peddie School to be foremost on residents’ minds.

“With Council rescinding the Borough Hall bond ordinance at Monday’s meeting, I’m sure residents want to know what is next,” Thibault said.  “I particularly look forward to getting information about other options from residents who participated in the petition against the bond ordinance.  The Council investigated at least 10 options over the past 18 months and I welcome the opportunity to learn about any we might have overlooked.”

Thibault also said that the ordinance revisions he introduced Monday night to eliminate the Peddie School’s special exemption from rental inspections and fees is likely to be another topic raised by residents.  Based on current Borough ordinance, Peddie School, in addition to their tax-exempt status, has also had a one-of-a-kind exemption from the rental inspection requirements and fees faced by any other property owner. ”I believe the Borough code should be applied equally to everyone.”
