Stephanie Berman 5K Run/Walk Set for Sunday

Berman was attending Hightstown High School when she was killed in a car accident thirteen years ago.

The seventh annual Stephanie Berman 5K run is set for this Sunday at Hightstown High School. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the run and walk begins at 10 a.m.

The race, which includes a one mile fun walk, pays tribute to Hightstown High School former student Stephanie Berman who died in car accident in 2000 at 16-years-old. Berman, who was from East Windsor, was a field hockey player and her teammate and friend Sara Yaeggy said “we have never forgotten her and the tears never stop flowing.”

According to the 5K run website, the field hockey season following Berman’s death was dedicated to her. During a coin toss at center field at the following game a blue butterfly was attempting to get Yaeggy’s attention which brought smiles to the team and the spectators. Not long ago, Berman’s former teammates have dedicated a garden with a butterfly bush near the high school’s athletic complex.
