HEWYBL Update – Week ending 5/14/11

Cal Ripken T-BALL

On Friday, the Dom's Service Center Red Ninjas and Rita's Green Giants played to a 21-21 tie. The Ninjas offense was led by the fine hitting of Brooke Leaver and Evan Lesser while Jason Shumsky and Jason Capre played great defense. For the Green Giants, Hailey Podlesney, Jake Pandina and Ben Ng all contributed solid hits.

On Saturday, the Dom's Service Center Red Ninjas and the J. Russo Pavers Blue Bombers played to an 18-18 tie. Alina Caylo and Michael O'Keefe both had key hits for the Ninjas, and Justin Shaw was outstanding in the field. The Bombers were helped by the timely hitting of Meghan Sharpe and Tucker DeBruyn.

The All Star Deli Subs & Sandwiches Scorpions took on the Brace Place Purple Dragons last week in a hard-fought match-up featuring a spectacular offensive showing from both teams. For the Scorpions, Mason DeBruyen, Brendan Reiss and Cameron Watkins were all 3-3 at the plate. The defensive play of the game came from Rahul Iyengar of the Scorpions with a gutsy shoestring catch at shortstop in the second inning. The Purple Dragons batting standouts included Archie Dyke, John Menzel and Anna Radigan, who also played very well as catcher.

On May 7, the JE Movers Vipers defeated Hamilton Little Lads by a score of 10-7. After 2 quick home runs by Hamilton, Mike Hayden was composed to pitch an amazing 3 innings. A strong hit by Hunter Jackman-Hulick scored 2 runs. Jake Dawes lined a ball to right center to help score 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the Vipers up by 3 in the top of the 9th, a strong defense, contributed to by Kevin Seng's catch in left field and Ryan DeMille's strong pitching, helped seal the win. A great game was played by all.
