Former East Windsor Police Lieutenant Dies at 72

Robert VanHise worked for the East Windsor police for 31 years.

Robert D. VanHise Jr., 72, of Hamilton died on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, with his family at his side. Born in Trenton, Bob was a lifelong area resident.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1958 to 1964 and as a Reservist from 1964 to 1968. He was employed by the East Windsor Police Department for 31 years, retiring in 1995 at the rank of lieutenant. For the past 18 years, Bob was employed by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office as a special agent. Bob was a member of the Hamilton Elks Lodge 2262, where he was currently the exalted ruler. Over the years he held the position of trustee and exalted ruler. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 530. Bob enjoyed golf, spending time with his family and friends, and enjoying a good laugh. He lived a very full life and touched the hearts of many. 

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including his special boys, "Marley and Toby." He was predeceased by his parents, Robert D. VanHise Sr. and Margaret (Craven) VanHise; his brother, Kenneth VanHise, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Stella Bogucki. He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia (Bogucki) VanHise; his daughters, Melissa Knapp and husband, Raymond Knapp Jr.; Sheri VanHise; Vicki Rich and husband, Rob, and Tracey VanHise; his son, Brett Van Hise, and his grandchildren, Brea VanHise, Lilah Jean Rich. He also leaves his sisters, Patty Moran and husband, Frank; Mary Busnan and husband, Walt; Terri VanHise, Phyllis Jennings, Peggy VanHise, and Joyce VanHise; brother-in-law, Walter S. Bogucki and wife, Chery Bogucki, and sister-in-law, Janice Brokofsky. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Bob's family would also like to express their appreciation to the nurses and doctors of Robert Wood Johnson at Hamilton, especially Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Breza. Their compassion and care was a blessing during this very difficult time. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday at the Kingston and Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton. Calling hours will be from 8 a.m until time of services.
