Hightstown Fireman Dies at 51

David Lidke died in the line of duty on Monday.

David Charles Lidke, 51, a lifelong resident of Hightstown, NJ, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, when he fell ill during a fire call. Lidke worked for many years at Jamesway, he also, at one time, worked for the Hightstown Diner and recently worked for the Hightstown Housing Authority.

Lidke was a member of Hightstown Engine Company #1, where he served as fire police lieutenant. He also was a member of Mercer County Fire Police. He volunteered at Hightstown Engine Company since January 2000. The Fire Company was his life. He could always be seen in front of the firehouse sitting on the rescue truck, wearing his American flag bandana, waiting for the next call to go out. His devotion to the members of the fire company and his duties there will always be honored.

Lidke also loved his family. His mother, Susan, was his world. People in town will remember him selling Christmas trees, riding his bike all over town or eating at The Hightstown Diner. His laugh was so memorable. Davey was a big teddy bear. He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. Hightstown lost one of its best when Dave passed. David is predeceased by his loving brother, Dennis Lidke. He is survived by his mother, Susan Lidke; his sister, Terri Lidke; his brother, Mark Lidke; and his beautiful niece, Gabriella Lidke; his aunt, uncle and cousins and Brenda Snook, who he considered to be his sister. He is also survived by all of his brothers and sisters of Hightstown Engine Company #1.

Lidke was loved by so many and his memory will live in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Hightstown Fire Company, 140 North Main Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520.

Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hightstown. Family and friends may call on Monday, Dec. 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hightstown Fire Company. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the Hightstown Fire Company, 140 North Main Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520. Arrangements are under the direction of Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown, NJ 08520.
