Hightstown Obituary: Merwin Ivins, 85

Ivins lived his entire 85 years of live in Hightstown.

Merwin F. Ivins, 85, of Hightstown passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Mer lived his entire 85 years of life in Hightstown. Mer was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved playing all sports throughout high school and was a member of the Hightstown High Hall of Fame.

He was very proud of his accomplishments, some of which were winning the Penn Relays and shooting a 65 at Cream Ridge golf course. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and was a devout follower of his grandchildren's sporting events. Mer was in the Armed Services stationed in Sacramento, CA. Returning to Hightstown, he sold lumber for both Moore and Mack lumber for many years.

Involved in the community, Merwin was in the Jaycees, Hightstown Borough for HUD projects, and was a member of the Hightstown Historical Association. The last 30 years Mer spent his time selling antiques and doing estate appraisals. Predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Ivins, and his wife, Anne (Roche) Ivins, Merwin is survived by his four daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Mike Schickler, Christy Ivins, Dorie and Wayne Tallman, and Hallie and Tim Custer; his brother, Barry Ivins, and his grandchildren, Casandra Tallman, Christopher Schickler, Samantha Tallman, Jeffrey Tallman and Caitlyn Custer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Glackin/Saul Funeral Home, 136 Morrison Ave., Hightstown, NJ.

Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hightstown, NJ. Family and friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Glackin/Saul Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Merwin's memory to the First Baptist Church of Hightstown, 125 S. Main Street, Hightstown, NJ 08520.
