Accident Injures Driver, Closes Route 33

The East Windsor road was closed for 45 minutes Tuesday afternoon while emergency personnel extricated one man and airlifted him to the hospital.

Seven local and state agencies responded to Route 33 at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday after a Pennsylvania man driving  a 1989 Buick eastward hit the rear axle of a 2003 Mack tractor-trailer going in the opposite direction, according to police.

The collision, near the entrance to the N.J. Turnpike, reportedly caused “extensive damage” to the Buick and trapped the driver, Charles Bigley, 61,of Yardley, Pa.

Emergency workers freed Bigley from the wreck and the New Jersey State Police NorthSTAR Medical Aviation Unit transported him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for leg and chest injuries, police said. The truck driver, Juan Ortiz, 36, of Hamilton, was not reported to be injured.

said the responding agencies were , , , Capital Health Systems Ambulance and Capital Health Systems Paramedics.

Police said Tuesday evening they were still investigating the incident and that no charges had been filed.
