Day of Incidents, Accidents Ends With Severe Storms At The Jersey Shore

A string of motor vehicle accidents, boating and water accidents and rescues keep responders busy

Emergency responders were in high gear Saturday night into Sunday as accidents and rescues occurred one after the other all along the shore region.

The following is a brief wrap-up of incidents reported by Patch staff, police, the U.S. Coast Guard and eyewitnesses. Further information was not available:

Long Branch water rescue: A swimmer in distress was rescued from the ocean Sunday morning and required some medical attention, Patch confirmed. The incident occurred near 787 Ocean Ave. in the area of The Imperial House.

Sandy Hook water rescue: A Medavac landing took place at the U.S. Coast Guard base for a near drowning and neck injury.

Garden State Parkway Saturday night motor vehicle accidents: Three motor vehicle accidents with minor injuries occurred in the weekend overnight hours near milemarkers 82, 80 and 109, state police confirmed.

Toms River State Police chase: A police chase took place involving New Jersey state troopers in the township Saturday night into Sunday, according to police. No further information was available. See
 
Seaside Park boat in distress : A boat, apparently a catamaran or sailboat, was reportedly in distress. A call was made regarding people in the water and a rescue was made near South Bayview Avenue.

Forked River boat taking on water: Just as the storm hit Lacey Township reports surfaced of a boat taking on water near one of the branches of the Forked River. The boat made it safely to a marina, according to the breaking news network.

Long Beach Island, Surf City: A water search was taking place for a jet skier late Sunday night into Monday morning.

Brick Township Motor vehicle accident: Route 88 was shutdown for over eight hours Sunday morning due to a down telephone pole. See .

New Jersey Transit bus fire in Toms River:  Fire occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 166 near Route 37. Two passengers and the driver exited the bus after realizing the engine compartment was smoking. See  .

Manahawkin motor vehicle accident: An airlift took place following a serious accident that sent a car careening from Route 72 west over to Route 72 east, Patch confirmed.

I heard the boat that capsized at Tices was that hot dog pontune (sp??) boat.

We have aerial photos of an inverted twin hull near the BB marker Sunday. Our log= 1722 CG reports, speed boat overturned 1 mile north of BB bouy. 1731 A 24' GradyWhite has picked up all four persons. No injuries were reported. 1754 On station with over turned boat north of bouy #BB. GPS N 39.50.1 W 074.07.6 ( pix ) thw= we re-found the burned hull from Fri. 8/3 near bouy 47 for CG. Our hats off to the Tices Shoal guys. All clean, all Family fun, & we forward to seeing you every Fri., Sat, & Sun, twice 1830-1915. Love the rafting.
