Cranbury Bicyclist Injured in Collision

Police chief said the accident could have been avoided.

A bicyclist traveling on the wrong side of the road in Cranbury struck a car on Wednesday and was taken to the hospital, according to a police official.

Eugene Sileo, 63, of Cranbury, was riding his bike without a helmet westbound on the eastbound side of Park Place when he collided with a car making a right onto Park Place from North Main Street, said Police Chief Rickey Varga. The Cranbury First Aid Squad took Sileo to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for what appeared to be a compound fracture to his right leg.

Varga said the driver of the vehicle, 47-year-old Donnet Smith, of East Windsor, was not at fault, and no summonses were issued.

“Most accidents are avoidable, and this one certainly was,” Varga said. “As always we urge our residents to use caution when either riding bicycles or crossing our streets as they are ever-growing with congestion.”
