Crash in McDonald's Drive-Thru Leads to DWI Charge

East Windsor Township police said Robert Connaghan, 56, of Marlboro struck a “protective barrier”at the McDonald’s.

A Monmouth County man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he crashed his vehicle while navigating the drive-thru lane of the McDonald’s restaurant on Route 130 earlier this month, East Windsor police reported.

Police said Robert Connaghan, 56, of Marlboro struck a “protective barrier” in the McDonald’s drive-thru lane about 2:45 p.m. on March 5.

While the accident itself was minor in nature, Officer David Oleksy – who responded to the crash – smelled an odor of alcohol on Connaghan’s person, according to police.

Connaghan was taken into custody after he performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving, police said.
