East Windsor Distributing Free Gun Locks

Residents can get locks from the police department during the month of March.

As part of a gun safety program, East Windsor Township will be distributing gun safety locks to residents upon request, according to a news release.

“This is a pro-active initiative, geared to promote and provide improved gun safety," Mayor Janice Mironov said in the release. "These locks if properly used by lawful gun owners can help prevent accidental deaths or injuries in the home, as well as deaths and injuries caused by the intentional misuse of guns.”

The locks are given to the township at no cost through Project ChildSafe, which is the nation’s largest firearms safety program sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation Residents, the release said. Residents can request a lock during the month of March by contacting Det. Brian Gorski at 448-5678, ext. 236.
