East Windsor, Hightstown Police to Hold National Night Out

Events are held nationwide on Aug. 7.

Local police departments will be participating in “National Night Out” on Aug. 7, a nationwide event bringing the community together for a night against crime.

The East Windsor Police Department has been participating for 15 years, and the Hightstown Police Department will be holding their sixth event.

Emergency services will have equipment set up for the community to learn more about, and crime watch information will be distributed, according to the Township. Police dogs will conduct demonstrations, and parents can have identification cards printed for children.

“We are pleased to be a part of this national effort which provides an opportunity to enhance positive relationships between our citizens and local government,” Mayor Janice Mironov said in a news release. “I encourage all East Windsor residents to stop by and join with us in this fun and positive evening of fellowship and activities.”

Children can also play in the moon bounce, climb the rock wall and have their face painted, the release said. Local bands will also perform and there will be refreshments available.

East Windsor’s National Night Out will be held at the on Airport Road from 6 to 9 p.m.

Hightstown

This year Hightstown police have teamed up with several local businesses to expand National Night Out, according to police.

Police said they will be serving up hamburgers, hotdogs and refreshments, at no charge, and there will be an outdoor DJ. Kids can play in the bounce house or on the water slide, and have their face painted.

MacGruff the crime-fighting dog will be making an appearance, along with Hightstown Police’s K9 officer, Niko. 

Local restaurants and bakeries will have additional food for sale, and nothing will cost more than $5.

Hightstown’s National Night Out will be held at the Main Street parking lot and in from 6 to 9 p.m. Parking will be available in the Borough Hall Parking Lot and police remind those attending to use the designated crosswalks.

National Night Out was initiated in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit crime prevention organization.
