East Windsor Man Charged with Attempted Kidnapping

The 42-year old East Windsor man involved in a police pursuit Friday was issued a warrant for his arrest by Freehold Township Municipal Court after he allegedly attempted to kidnap his ex-girlfriend and threatened her, and others, with a gun.

Michael Scholander of Dennison Drive, East Windsor, faces seven charges in Freehold and is being held in Monmouth County jail on $170,000 bail. 

According to the complaint warrant, Scholander is alleged to have ordered his ex-girlfriend to get into his car by pointing a pistol at her, and threated to kill her ex-husband if she did not cooperate, which led to him being charged for criminal attempt and terroristic threats.

He is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault for pointing a gun at her and another person during the incident in a threatening manner and weapons charges. 

After the incident, Scholander led police in a chase through Lawrence Township, Hamilton Township, and East Windsor, eventually resulting in Scholander's arrest near Town Center Road on Route 130 in East Windsor.

Scholander also faces charges in East Windsor for eluding, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop for emergency vehicle, obstructing traffic, unsafe operation and unsafe plate, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

He faces additional charges in Hamilton and elsewhere, including charges in Lawrence Township for eluding and failing to stop/yield for an emergency vehicle, according to Lawrence Township police spokesman Detective Sgt. Joseph Amodio.
