Hightstown Blotter: Assault, Theft, DWI's

A compilation of recent arrests in Hightstown Borough.

Driving While Intoxicated

Manjal Yagnik, 26, of Leshin Lane, Hightstown, was arrested on Mercer Street about 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving, and speeding.

Police said Yagnik’s vehicle was stopped for allegedly traveling 47 mph in a 25-mph speed zone. Upon approaching Yagnik’s vehicle, an officer “detected a strong odor of an alcohol beverage and had the driver perform field sobriety tests, which he failed,” police said.

Yagnik was taken into custody and, according to police, submitted breath samples that resulted in a blood alcohol reading of 0.10 percent. He was later released with court action pending.

Driving While Intoxicated

Dasia Powell, 19, of Fryer Court, Hightstown, was arrested on Stockton Street about 10:55 a.m. on Feb. 19 and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, and use of and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Police said Powell was initially stopped for a motor vehicle violation, but when an officer approached Powell’s vehicle he “detected a strong odor of marijuana.” Powell was taken into custody after she failed field sobriety tests, according to police.

“Ms. Powell was transported to police headquarters, where she was determined to be under the influence of marijuana and was later released with pending court action,” police said.

Assault

Carlos Astudillo Zhuzhingo, 45, of Franklin Street, Hightstown, was arrested about 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with simple assault after he got into a dispute with another person.

Sent to investigate a “parking complaint” on Franklin Street, officers arrived to find the other individual “bleeding from the face.” Police said their investigation “revealed that a verbal altercation turned physical,” with  Zhuzhingo assaulting the other person. After being processed at police headquarters, Zhuzhingo was released, with court action pending.

Theft

Between 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 and 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 someone stole a 53-foot-long, white Freuhaf trailer from the International Food and Beverage Co. facility on Mercer Street. The trailer bore New Jersey registration T29S5V. Police ask anyone with information regarding the theft or location of the trailer to call them at (609) 448-1234.

Contempt of Court

Darrius Wojtowicz, 19, of Lincoln Avenue, Hightstown, was arrested about 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 19 and charged with contempt of court after he went to the borough police station and turned himself in on a $500 traffic warrant that had been issued for his arrest by Hightstown Borough Municipal Court. He was later released after posting bail.
