Hightstown Blotter: Police Seeking Burglars

Two home break-ins were reportedly attempted, and police are seeking the public's help in finding the suspects.

March 15

  • Police are seeking two men who allegedly tried to break into two residences at Wyckoff’s Mill.

Police said they responded to the development at 1:23 p.m. after a homeowner reported returning home to find two men trying to break into his and his neighbor’s residences. Once found, the men reportedly ran into the woods, and police said they did not find them.

One man was described as a dark-skinned black man between 30 and 35 years old, 6 feet tall and between 160 and 170 pounds, with black jeans, a black sweater, a black do-rag and a goatee. The other man was described as a light-skinned black man, between 20 and 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and between 150 and 160 pounds, with a dark blue sweater, dark navy blue pants and a wool cap.

March 13

  • John Gaye, 34, of Twin Rivers Drive North, East Windsor, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

Police said they stopped him at 3:27 a.m. on North Main Street after seeing him swerving from the center line to the fog line and nearly hitting a parked vehicle. Police said they stopped him, smelled alcohol, and administered field sobriety tests which he failed. At headquarters, police said his blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent. He was later turned over to the Hightstown Rescue Squad for a medical emergency, according to police

  • Jessica L. Ray, 19, of South Plainfield, was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, underage DWI, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, careless driving, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, delaying traffic and failure to exhibit an insurance card.

Police said they stopped her at 1:20 a.m. on Mercer Street after seeing her stop for a green light, sit for a few seconds and then continue on erratically, stopping in the middle of the road multiple times without apparent cause. Police said they smelled alcohol and marijuana and administered field sobriety tests which she failed. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of Gray Goose vodka, according to police, and at headquarters Ray’s blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.07 percent. She was released to a friend.

March 12

  • Rahkier Little, 40, of Roselle Park, was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, refusal to submit breath samples and failure to maintain lane.

Police said they stopped her at 1:47 a.m. on Mercer Street after seeing her swerving across the center and fog lines. Police said they stopped her, smelled alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which she failed. In custody, Little refused to provide breath samples, and she was later released to a friend, police said.

March 11

  • The theft of a signaling lamp was reported from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on the 200 block of Franklin Street.

Police said they responded to the residence at 12:25 p.m., and that the victim said someone stole the lamp from their Honda Prelude. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-448-1234.

  • Police are investigating an attempted burglary on Grape Run Road.

Police said they responded to the residence at 8:48 p.m., where the homeowner said someone tried to enter through the rear and then front doors before that homeowner scared the person away prior to police arriving. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-448-1234.

March 9

  • Timothy Eldgridge, 51, of Morrisville, Pa. was charged with contempt of court, suspended license, unlicensed driving and failure to maintain lamps.

Police said they stopped him at 4:12 p.m. on Prospect Drive for having no operating brake lights and found he had a suspended license and a $2,500 Tinton Falls Municipal Court warrant. He was released on bail.
