Man Accused of Driving Stolen Car Caught After Chase

Three area-departments caught him at the Cranbury Circle on foot.

A man driving a stolen car on Friday fled from police after an officer tried to pull him over, leading to a foot chase near the Cranbury Circle on Route 130, according to authorities.

A white van pulled out of the closed Exxon Station on Route 130 around 3 a.m. Friday, and police tried to pull the van over because it looked suspicious, authorities said. The driver, 35-year-old Yosef Boyd of Lumberton, took off north on Route 130 into Cranbury and running a red light, according to East Windsor police.

Boyd then got out of the stolen car and ran back toward East Windsor, police said. East Windsor, Hightstown and Cranbury police caught him just south of the Cranbury Circle.

Police said the car was registered in Virginia.

Boyd was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police, resisting arrest, obstructing, speeding, reckless driving, careless driving failure to observe signal, failure to maintain lane, driving while suspended and had a warrant out of Mt. Holly, police said. He was brought to the Mercer County Corrections Center in lieu of $25,000 bail.
