Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teen Boy in Hightstown

A witness captured the alleged crime on a cell phone photo and alerted police.

A 43-year-old man was captured on camera performing oral sex on a 15-year-old boy near Peddie Lake in Hightstown Sunday night, according to police.

A witness who took a cell phone photo of the crime alerted authorities, police said. The man, identified by police as Thomas A. Massaro of Meadow Drive, allegedly offered the teen money to perform the sexual act.

Massaro was charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and prostitution involving a minor, and was being held at the Mercer County Adult Correction Center on $50,000 bail.

Waiting to see how long it takes "Detective" Miller to charge the Good Samaritan with possession of child porn...
Americanway August 28, 2012 at 06:36 PM
I am so glad they caught him. It's also probably not his first time.
c August 28, 2012 at 07:55 PM
@ Hightstown Homeowner, I totally agree with you.
Dave Bell August 29, 2012 at 12:14 AM
How about a mugshot of the piece of crap instead of the waterfalls? This low life my have other victims around here or where ever he crawled out from under and getting his picture up would help.
Joe VanHandel August 29, 2012 at 11:21 AM
They should have shot him on the spot, and threw him in the lake.. what a piece of trash. Now we can feed am rehabilitate him, only so he can get out and do it again.

Dave - The MCPO has released the photo and it has been posted.
Hightstown Concerned Citizen August 30, 2012 at 04:07 PM
This person should rot in jail for a long time - and they should tell the other prisoners what he is in there for... that teen was disabled - this guy is a piece of crap
Andy Schwartz August 30, 2012 at 04:58 PM
First of all...I don't see anything in this piece about the teen being disabled....so let's not spread unfound rumours. Who should be charged with prostitution? I think you have this backwards...the teen said yes to accepting the money. That readers is prostituting onesself.
Hightstown Citizen August 30, 2012 at 07:08 PM
Andy Schwartz- You are an idiot! I know this teen, he IS special needs, and this man got him drunk first!!! Don't make such an ignorant comment unless you know all the facts of the case! You owe this boy's family an apology!
Hightstown Concerned Citizen August 30, 2012 at 07:15 PM
The article doesn't say he is disabled - but I know the teen and the adult in this case. The teen is disabled and the adult gave him beer all day, 15 yrs old is not able to consent moron - if this teen was your 15 year old daughter - would you claim that she is a prostitute? Get real.... it is just because it is a boy - and a teen - you figure it should be ok for any predator to take advantage.... what if the boy was 8? at what age do you think it is ok? think about it
Mel Alio August 30, 2012 at 07:16 PM
Whoa! The child was 15. Minors can't consent because they lack maturity and discretion. Any adult who exploits that for perverse reasons should be held accountable. Also, there is no reason to speculate or post facts about the victim. The kid is a vicitm and deserves privacy so that he can heal.
Dave Bell August 30, 2012 at 07:30 PM
Thanks Ashley. Hope there are no other victims, but if there are hope they come forward to make sure this low life gets max time. Andy, really???? An adult take advantage of a kid and you try to blame the kid not the adult??? I don't care if the kid is disabled or not the adult is a piece of crap.
Andy Schwartz August 30, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Mel, I agree on the issue of the teen being a minor. I offer everyone my apology on that subect. But please tell me where in the Patch article does it say that the teen is disabled? So, in reply to "Hightstown Concerned Citizen," one depends on journalists to report a story with all the facts! Leaving that information out was the responsibility of the Patch writer and ultimately the writer's editor. Dave, No adault should take advantage of an underaged teen especially by feeding him alcohol all day as the above commentors stated. I don't think I'm the bad guy here. Being a professional journalist, I take issue that such an article was published without all the facts in print. That's all.
Leslie Bianczik August 31, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Andy, nice attempt at a backpedal. The reporter is reporting based on information from the police. The fact that people with personal knowledge of the story came here and posted details that the police did not provide does not make the writer or editor a poor journalist. You are the bad guy here and I have a hard time believing you are a "professional journalist" based on your command of the English language and grammar. Suggesting that the victim in this case be charged with prostitution is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.
Hightstown Concerned Citizen August 31, 2012 at 03:49 PM
Yes Leslie - I agree.. sometimes people like to jump to conclusions without all the facts - but the basic facts are unchanging - I do know the family and this boy is disabled, but aside from that - even if he was not disabled... what is a grown man doing giving alcohol to a 15 year old boy? He was planning something all along I think, and Andy - to say that offering money makes the boy a prostitute is ridiculous, what if the man offered him a new xbox? Don't think it is the boys fault at all - the man should have known better and needs to be held accountable. He is a low-life and belongs behind bars. Yay to the Hightstown police and the good citizen that caught him!
Andy Schwartz August 31, 2012 at 05:22 PM
As the editor you have final responsibility. Once the postings went up someone should have done some fact checking! If you're not familiar with the terminology, then you are definitely in the wrong position.
Andy Schwartz August 31, 2012 at 05:23 PM
And yes Leslie, I am a professional writer. If you wouid like I'll be happy to send you the masthead of the magazine(s) in question.
Mike Dontworryboutit August 31, 2012 at 08:29 PM
This PIECE OF S*** just quit the place I work at. He was only there a couple months and from DAY NUMBER ONE me and the rest of my co workers said he was a child rapist! He was def off his rocker! We were not shocked in the least bit! He is a creeper and def gives off that vibe!!!! What a low life piece of S***. Give him the chair! That poor kid now has to live his life with that CREEPS memories!
Mike Dontworryboutit August 31, 2012 at 08:37 PM
And to add more to it. It would not surprise me in the least bit there are more! He was extremely strange! The PIECE OF S*** is def exremely foul!!!!
Ex- neighbor September 03, 2012 at 06:39 PM
I also know this creep. His parents bailed him out of every offense, every time he was in jail. They enabled a monster to thrive and mutate until he became a sick pedo. He was always fucked in the head and his parents always cleaned up his mess. Wonder if they will clean this up too or just hide from the monster they enabled?
Andy Schwartz September 03, 2012 at 08:11 PM
Obviously the Hightstown Police knew about this guy since his parents were always bai, ling him out of trouble. In such a small town, why was this guy allowed to walk around town without a bit of surveillance...My previous points, are a result of the Patch staff not following this story properly. I'm sure there was an arraignment, wouldn't you all think that someone reporting for the Patch would have at least gotten a transcript on record, do a background check...? If it weren't for all of the neighbors above, the first issue here and probably still remains: this is the United States. Everyone is entitled to a fair trial by law regardless of their alleged and we must unfortunately use the word "alleged," as this man has not been declared guilty as of yet.
Andy Schwartz September 03, 2012 at 08:17 PM
Leslie, Please! Your answer does not give any background history on this man's behavior nor has anyone provided information from the arraignment. Question my credentials? I don't find the need to spell nor grammar check my replies to a story that you will not take responsibility for. Did you ever hear of an "Op-Ed" page, Leslie? Maybe you should have one, rather than to shoot darts at individuals who are simply questioning the entirely of the story!
Helen Massaro October 09, 2012 at 07:19 AM
First i would like to address the Ex neighbor. You seem to have a lot of faulse infomation about his parents. He spent one month in Rikers Island by court order for domestice vilance because he found out his ex wife was cheating on him and never got bailed out and is on probation for that.he hasn't been in jail since this incidint and that was 3 years ago. This all took place in new york. He moved here to straighten his life out, get a job and save money for an apartment of his own . Don't you people know buy now you can't believe everything you read in the paper. The boy was yelled at for taking the beer a few times but didn't listen. The man hasn't been indited yet and hasn't been accused of all the accusations and all of you are hanging him.Let the courts decide. If he is found guilty he will have to pay the consiquences. He will never live in hightstown again and for you information there are 2 petifiles living right in hightston. He has a tough road ahead and I pray that The Lord leads him in the right direction and watches over him. I also want to thank Andy Schwartz for saying some good things about this case. ...PS to the Ex neighbor we are living here 8 years and haven't talked to anyone about our family problems.
Ex neighbor October 21, 2012 at 10:47 PM
Helen your way of thinking is so warped its laughable. He obviously escalated from abusing women to abusing children. He didn't move to start first he moved because had no choice. The thing you call a son has a rap sheet that is filled with violence. So it took eight years for him to fuck up? So you know where he was and what he was doing every moment of the day? The fact that you found it appreciate to bring up the victim, a special needs child .... a CHILD regardless who had not developed the capacity to use reasoning or judgement, is pathetic. Your an enabler of the worst kind because you will never be able to see what is right in front of your face. I pity you; sometimes good parents raise a criminal -- that doesn't apply to you. You had to come defend him on this page; you should worry about defending the family name he tarnished ... The one everyone in your town knows ... The one every child in your grandchildren's class now knows. Oh and its spelled pedophile you should become familiar with the definition and spelling. PS there's this thing called word of mouth and the Internet.
Hightstown Concerned Citizen November 15, 2012 at 07:50 PM
To the ex neighbor - thanks - you took the words right out of my mouth. Tom Massaro is 43, if he hasn't gotten his life straight by now and is doing violence to children (special needs or not), violence to women for whatever excuse you can come up with - then this guy needs to stay behind bars. He has RUINED the life of a boy that is already having issues by being special needs, that boy will never forget this - EVER. And blaming him for drinking the beer - PULEESE - your son shouldn't have given him any beer, he could have kept the beer away from the boy if he'd wanted to, obviously it was much easier to molest someone that is intoxicated and doesn't understand what is going on.... stop enabling your son's bad behavior! It is not your fault he turned out this way - but STOP EXCUSING HIM!
