Cranbury Police Seeking Witnesses in Crash that Killed Monroe Man

A 22-year-old Monroe Township man died Friday, a day after his car hit another vehicle and crashed into a tree on Route 130 in Cranbury, and investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward, police said.

Arthur Corniola, of Monroe Township, was driving north on Route 130 near Station Road around 7:20 p.m. Thursday when he hit the back of another vehicle that was just starting to accelerate from being stopped at a red light, Cranbury Police Chief Rickey Varga said. Corniola’s black 2003 Mercury Sable continued off the roadway, struck a tree and overturned, coming to a rest on the driver’s side.

 cut Corniola out of the car, and  transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, Varga said. Corniola died around 6 p.m. on Friday from his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Ashley Anderson, 22, of Trenton, was transported to Capital Health System in Hamilton for observation, but was later released, Varga said. She was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. 

No citations have been issued and  Department of Crash Investigators and Reconstructionists are continuing to investigate the accident, Varga said. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or possible events leading up to it can contact Sgt. Giuseppe DeChiara 609-395-0031.
