Plane Crashes at Central Jersey Airport

A multi-engine aircraft crashed Thursday, landing short of the runway at Hillsborough's Central Jersey Airport and sending both passengers to the hospital, a spokesperson from the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Arlene Salac, a spokesperson for the FAA in New York, confirmed that State Police reported to the administration that the aircraft landed short of runway 25. She also said that both passengers were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries.    

Salac said the plane was manufactured by Beech and its model number is 76. She said the tail number was not known at this time.

The aircraft was upside down as first responders addressed the scene. A medical helicopter was also seen flying from the airport.

Salac said inspectors from the FAA will be arriving at the scene to begin the investigation. She said in an accident like this, the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause of the accident. A preliminary report usually takes from a week to 10 days, she said.
