Police: Men Eat Heroin Bags While Held at Walmart for Shoplifting

A Spotswood and Mantua man told East Windsor police that they ingested several bags of heroin while detained by Walmart employees.

Two men admitted to eating bags of heroin after being apprehended by store personnel for shoplifting at Walmart, according to East Windsor police.

Daniel Colantuoni, 25, of Spotswood, and Thomas McKnight, 26, of Mantua, told police that they ingested several bags of heroin after Walmart employees detained them for stealing two sets of earrings and leaving the store. Police arrived at the store and learned that the both Colantuoni and McKnight were under the influence of heroin. Colantuoni was also found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle, police said.

Initially, Colantuoni told police a false identity and it was later discovered that he had outstanding arrest warrants out of Freehold Township. McKnight also had an outstanding warrant out of Mantua.

Colantuoni was charged with possession of heroin, hindering apprehension, possession of a hypodermic needle, under the influence of heroin, driving while intoxicated, drugs in a motor vehicle, and driving while suspended. McKnight was charged with under the influence of heroin.

Walmart chose not to sign complaints for the shoplifting offenses, according to police.
