Car Goes Airborne in West Windsor, Damages Nine Vehicles

The driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said.

A car crashed into a metal fence and went airborne over six cars, landing on its roof, at a Mini Cooper dealership on the north side of the Route 1 Friday morning, according to West Windsor police.

West Windsor emergency services pulled the woman who was driving out of the car and took her to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro as a precautionary measure after she complained of pain, said Lt. William Bastedo

The car left the highway about 120 to 140 feet before the Princeton Mini dealership around 8:30 a.m., then hit the fence before going airborne, and landing on the seventh and eighth Mini Coopers in the line of cars, Bastedo said. Nine cars in the lot were either hit or damaged from debris.

No lanes were closed, but traffic was backed up to the 95 overpass in Lawrence, he said. A Nixle alert sent after the crash called it a “traffic nightmare.”

this must've been a medical condition to have left Route 1, go airborn, and flip. The only other logical explanation is reckless driving at high speeds. There's really nothing there that would cause this accident besides the driver's error.

I am glad I stayed home today. That would have been some traffic trying to get to MacLean Agency for my insurance card. You never know with Rt 1 sometimes it moves smooth and others like today.

I was held up trying to get to work at MacLean Agency, I had a person meeting me first thing for an insurance card.

Passed by Princeton MINI just 10 minutes before the crash and traffic was light. I've been driving that stretch of road for 20 years. People on Rt 1 are maniacs. Saw a car merge onto 1 from QB two months ago cross all three lanes and hit a car in the left lane in its blind spot and flip over. I doubt this was a "medical condition" unless the driver had a seizure and mashed the gas pedal. A car moving at a sane speed doesn't go airborn like this one did. Hope the driver is OK, but glad he/she is off the road for a while.

It is sickening seeing the comments with everyone making assumptions when you don't have the whole story. It is a disappointment in society when they have no clue if this driver has made it out of the woods safely.

Thank you Sheri! I know the woman involved and I can assure you, not that it'anyone's business but, the woman went unconscious for reasons unknown until the hospital runs tests!

to everyone assuming this was a case of reckless driving, can you show me where it says that in the article? No, you can't. Instead you're just making blind assumptions as you post mean things on the internet from your parents' basements. For my part, I am just happy nobody was hurt worse and I wish the driver a speedy recovery.

Thank goodness that no one was killed or seriously injured (I certainly hope that the driver was not seriously injured, which is implied in the article). Thanks to seat belts, air bags, padded dashboards and other safety features, the driver was able to be removed from the wreck with her life. All these safety features did not happen by some lucky accident, it took people like Ralph Nader and strong goverment mandates and laws. Wishing a full recovery to the woman.

This could have been a sight to see, but I am glad that the woman driving this was all right. I wonder what happened to the 9 or so cars that were affected by this crash. I am sure that it was a nightmare for the Mini car dealership to see its 9 cars affected by this. I have witnessed the same incident, when I was driving around town looking for some car parts. I was at a junction, when a car drove past me about 70mph, which was a violation already when the speed limit in that area was only 40mph. It hit a car in front of it, and it skidded before it hit a post. The car was beating the red light. Luckily, I was not in a rush to go; otherwise, I would have been the fatality at that scene.
