Sheriff Kemler Promotes Two, Appoints Undersheriff

Sgt. James Freeman has been named the Mercer County Undersheriff.

Two members of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office have been promoted and a new Undersheriff has been appointed, Sheriff Jack Kemler announced on Monday, July 1.

Lt. Christopher Kenyon was promoted to Chief Sheriff’s Officer, and Sgt. Donald Patykula was promoted to Lieutenant at a ceremony in the Mercer County Civil Courthouse on Monday.

Sgt. James Freeman was appointed to Undersheriff at an earlier date, Kemler said.

I am pleased to appoint and promote three highly-qualified officers from within our ranks,Kemler said. Each of the officers possesses a high degree of professionalism and dedication to the office and public we serve.”

Kenyon, a 12-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, will be in charge of the Courts.

Previously, he served in the Courts, the Airport Unit and the U.S. Marshall Service.

He was promoted to sergeant in 2009 and lieutenant in 2011. He’s served in the Fugitive Unit ever since.

Patykula, a 23-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, will serve directly under Kenyon. He served in the Courts for 13 years and the Fugitive Unit for seven. He was promoted to the position of sergeant in 2009, and has served as Detective Sergeant in the Fugitive Unit for the last year.

Freeman, a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, will oversee community programs, process servers, Project Lifesaver and agency training. He was promoted to the position of sergeant in 2006.
