UPDATED: Late-Night Hightstown House Blaze Displaces Family

The blaze occurred Friday night at 131 Outcalt St.

A residential fire at 131 Outcalt St. in Hightstown drew five fire companies to the scene Friday night, starting at 8:53 p.m. and running into early Saturday morning. The family of seven escaped without injury and the Red Cross found them shelter for the night, Deputy Chief Scott Jenkins said Tuesday.

Jenkins said the company arrived to find heavy smoke billowing out of the second story of the single-family home. Once inside, the firefighters contained the fire to a single bedroom. "It was a great response," he said, adding his department "emptied the house" of equipment for the blaze.

"Nobody got hurt and we saved the house — you can't ask for much more than that," he said.
