The East Windsor man turned himself in Monday on the charge stemming from a Friday-morning bar fight.

An East Windsor man has turned himself over to Monroe police after they charged him with attempted murder following a bar fight early Friday morning.

Bakeer Cole, 30, of The Orchard Apartments in East Windsor, surrendered to Monroe police Monday evening after the department asked the public’s help in determining his whereabouts that morning.

Monroe police said they responded to Ryan’s Pub on Spotswood-Englishtown Road in Monroe at 1:48 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a fight in progress. Police said they arrived to find a 22-year-old male customer of Belford, who had been in the fight and was suffering from apparent stab wounds to his chest and arms. The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, where a representative said he was treated and released.

Police said Cole caused the wounds by stabbing the victim in the chest several times, but they said Cole fled the scene before they arrived. On Monday, the police department issued a press release seeking more information on the fight or where Cole had gone, and at 5:18 p.m. that day Cole walked into the department and turned himself in. He was released on $50,000 bail, which was posted by a bail bond company, according to police.
