East Windsor Council Approves Road Improvements for Twin Rivers Drive

A new trail is also in the works at Etra Lake Park.

The East Windsor Township Council appropriated $274,500 in state grant money for the improvement and construction of roads and trails in the community at its Tuesday night meeting. Additionally, the council voted unanimously to accept a resolution with engineering firm BANC3 for services concerning the reconstruction of Twin Rivers Drive.

East Windsor received $250,000 in grants from the state Department of Transportation as part of its Municipal Aid Program last month. The money will be used for resurfacing and other reconstruction efforts such as improving curbs, drainage and handicap ramps. The road to be worked on, Twin Rivers Drive, is home to two elementary schools and recreational facilities. The construction will cover the section of road from Jamestown Road to Evanston Drive. This will exclude the New Jersey Department of Transportation right-of-way project at Route 33.

The Princeton-based consulting firm BANC3 has been contracted to provide professional engineering services on the project. The council voted 6-0 to approve the resolution, which sets a maximum compensation of $21,975 for the firm’s work. According to BAC3’s proposal, construction is expected to start in May and continue through to the end of August.  Mayor Janice Mironov said that she expects a timeline for the Twin Rivers Drive project along the way.

A second grant for $24, 500 from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection was also appropriated for the construction of the Disbrow Hill Trail as part of the Federal Highway Administration’s Recreational Trails Program. This is a result of a grant application the Township submitted in December 2009. The grant will also provide signage and benches along the trail, which will be located across from in “Disbrow Hill Park.”

“We are excited that the new trail will expand our township pathway network by complementing and connecting with two existing trails at Etra Lake Park,” said Mayor Mironov, explaining that the new trail will end up connecting the two recreational trails already in use at Etra Lake Park.
