East Windsor Introduces Budget with 1.5-Cent Tax Hike

The Township Council also recognized the resignation of former Deputy Mayor Walter T. Daniels Jr.

The East Windsor Council voted 6-0 Tuesday to introduce a budget that, if approved, would raise the local tax rate 1.5 cents per $100 of assessed home value, a cent less than was .

The $20.2 million budget, up from $19.8 million in 2010, calls for a local tax levy of $11.3 million. If approved, it would raise the local tax rate from 38.3 to 39.8 cents. For the owner of a residence valued at the township average of $264,000, that would lead to a tax increase of $39.60, for an annual tax bill of $1,051.72.

“This budget is the result of our workshop sessions over several weeks,” said Mayor Janice Mironov.

The public hearing and final budget vote will be held at the Township Council’s April 26 meeting.

The council also took a moment Tuesday to note , the former deputy mayor and 15-year council veteran who formally resigned from the council that morning. He announced his departure soon after the release of a saying he asked officers to downgrade his charges and make calls to their superiors following his March 1 arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated and several related violations.

Mayor Mironov acknowledged she had received the letter and Clerk Cindy Dye confirmed it was filed “first thing” Tuesday morning. The council did not otherwise comment on the matter.
