East Windsor Township Council Candidate Profile: Janice Mironov

Patch posed a series of questions to each candidate.

Name: Janice Mironov
Party: Democrat
Running for: Four year term

Why are you running for Township Council?
I have a substantial background educationally, professionally and through public service which enables me to work effectively with residents and other officials to help provide competent and responsive government and to get things accomplished in a positive professional environment for the benefit of our residents. I have lived in East Windsor for many years and care about making the community a great place to live and do business. I also have a great enjoyment of working with and involving young people in our government and community. I hope that I have been able to earn the trust and support of our community as a caring and pro-active and effective leader.

What are three issues most important to you and why?

1. Preservation of open space and farmland has been a top priority and will remain so.  I have successfully spear-headed aggressive Township open space acquisition and farmland preservation efforts resulting today in over 2,600 acres, over 25 percent of the Township, currently preserved, using $10 million secured in State and County grants, as well as developer donations. These initiatives also have resulted in a current total of 15 preserved farms on almost 1,000 acres including the popular historic Lee Turkey Farm.  These important efforts help “green” our community and retain some of the valued rural character, maintain farming in our township and provide an important and healthy balance to development.

2.  We have under extraordinary challenging conditions maintained financial stability in a fiscally conservative budget, and have one of the lowest municipal purposes tax components around the region;  the municipal purpose component is the smallest part of the Township property tax bill.  As the same time, we have maintained a high quality and quantity of municipal services to our residents, be it public works, police, recreation, senior services, construction/permitting, health, hailed as among the best around.  We will work hard to maintain this sound and responsive record.

3.  Continue to provide and expand recreational and social facilities and opportunities for our residents especially our young people and our senior citizens.  Our vision and hard work resulted in the construction and equipping of a new 11,000 square foot state-of-the-art Senior Center, totally underwritten by government grants of over $1.6 million and private funds, and built on donated land.  We have active programming developed through our Recreation Department and Senior Services Office.  We created a community partnership with citizens and businesses to design and construct a new totally privately-funded 20 acre community park on donated land, called Woods Road Community Park.  Currently, the Township is in the process of completing construction of a new multi-purpose playing fields facility on Disbrow Hill Road across from Etra Lake Park, underwritten by $1.2 million in county and state grants.  We have significantly extended the Township pathway system, with construction of many new grant-funded Pathway network initiatives including the Rocky Brook Pathway from One Mile Road to Route 130 ($250,000 grants), the Bear Brook Pathway from the library through Anker and Wiltshire Parks ($350,000 grants), the “Turnpike Park” Pathway to Woods Road Community Park ($38,865), the Etra Lake Pathway linking Twin Rivers to Etra Lake Park ($475,000 State grant), and the Disbrow Hill Trail ($24,500 State grant).  We look to continue forward with and build on these efforts and have grant applications currently pending for additional recreational projects

Why should residents vote for you?
Residents should vote for me and our entire team – based on our record of extensive accomplishments, provision of honest, professional and competent government, delivery of high quality municipal services, and our demonstrated fiscally conservative practices and philosophy. Additionally, my leadership skills, knowledge and experience, as well as my state, county and municipal relationships, all help further the goals and interests of our residents and community. We have been especially active and successful in pursing revenue opportunities through grants at the county, state and federal level, as well as private funding to allow the Township to undertake and fund important roadway improvements, recreation enhancements, senior programs, as well as many community events and programs, and educational and safety events. We will continue to actively pursue grants and seek private and business funding to allow the Township to support many of these activities and improvements without using local taxpayer money, and to build on our demonstrated record.
