Gov. Chris Christie to Endorse Mitt Romney for President

New Jersey governor will attend Tuesday's Republican debate, spokesman says.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will announce he's endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president, according to Ryan Williams, a spokesman with Romney's campaign.

Williams said Christie plans to join Romney at a press conference in Lebanon, N.H., at 3 p.m., to make the announcement.

The spokesman said Christie, a once-rumored candidate for the Republication presidential nomination, also will join Romney at Tuesday night's GOP debate at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

Christie and Romney, who both held governor posts as Republicans in largely Democratic states, appear to have some connections:

  • In March, Romney's political action committee, Free and Strong America, donated $25,000 to the New Jersey Republican Party "to help state legislative races this year," according to a press release by the PAC.
  • Romney endorsed Christie during his run for governor in 2009, when Christie was the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey.
  • Sen. Joseph Kyrillos (R-Monmouth), a longtime Christie associate, served as Romney's campaign chairman during the 2008 presidential primary in New Jersey.
