Hightstown Councilman to Introduce Resolution Creating Volunteer Appreciation Week in April

Rob Thibault will be introducing a resolution proclaiming April 21-27 as Volunteer Appreciation Week in Hightstown at their meeting on April 1.

A press release issued by Hightstown Borough:

The week of April 21-27 will be declared Hightstown Volunteer Appreciation Week in a resolution to be introduced by Councilman Rob Thibault at the Borough Council’s April 1, 2013 meeting.  Councilman Thibault will also present Borough volunteers with personalized Certificates of Recognition and lapel pins, a tradition he started in 2012 to thank volunteers for their dedication in serving the Borough and its residents,

“The number of volunteers in Hightstown and their dedication is awe-inspiring,” Councilman Thibault said. “Our community is a better place to live and work thanks to their untiring efforts.  Everyday volunteers stand ready risk their lives to fight fires, to save our lives if we’re injured, provide assistance to those in need and serve on countless boards and committees that help make our Borough government more effective and efficient.”

Councilman Thibault also cites events such as the Harvest Fair, Hightstown Triathlon, Farmers’ Market and Memorial Day Parade as examples of how volunteers improve the quality of life in the Borough.  “These events and others help make Hightstown a great small town but none of them would be possible if not for the hard work of volunteers,” Councilman Thibault said.

Although he presented more than 500 recognition certificates and pins last year, Councilman Thibault said he wants to expand the program this year to include volunteers he may have missed.

Councilman Thibault has already begun outreach to gather lists of volunteers but asks that Borough groups and organizations contact him by email at Thibault@hightstownborugh.com to make sure their volunteers are recognized.

“As many volunteers as we identified and honored last year, I’m sure that there are others we weren’t able to thank,” Councilman Thibault said.  “This year I want to make sure that every volunteer knows how much their efforts are appreciated.”

Whenever possible, Councilman Thibault also said he would like to thank each volunteer individually by attending meetings with each organization.  “Each volunteer deserves individual thanks and recognition for their work but with so many it’s impossible to do at a Council meeting,” Councilman Thibault said. “I will attend as many meetings as necessary to make sure every volunteer knows how much their contribution is valued and appreciated.”
