Hightstown Mayor Thanks East Windsor Township

East Windsor Township provided water to Hightstown during and after Hurricane Irene.

Hightstown Borough Mayor Steven Kirson thanked the East Windsor Township mayor and council for their quick response helping the Borough during and after Hurricane Irene.

“Within hours you guys stepped up and got us our water. If you did not do that we would have had to probably evacuate…,” Kirson said during the public comments portion of East Windsor’s Tuesday council meeting. 

Peddie Lake crested during the Hurricane and caused widespread flooding in downtown Hightstown. and a boil advisory was implemented until East Windsor supplied Hightstown with water.

“I thank you very much for the prompt attention that was paid to the Borough at that very moment that we needed that,” Kirson said.

Although Kirson was not in town Sunday, he said many people told him how quickly East Windsor came to the aid of the Borough. Kirson also noted the other capacities East Windsor helped, including backing up 9-1-1 calls and picking up debris.

“We’ve suffered a lot, but the suffering was mitigated by your actions,” Kirson said. 

During Hightstown’s council meeting Monday, councilwoman Isabel McGinty reinforced the need for a written thank you to East Windsor Township for helping the Borough. Several members of Hightstown’s council have said how grateful the Borough was for having East Windsor’s help during and after the hurricane.

“You find out who your real friends are,” Kirson said Tuesday. “Our friends stepped right up to bat for us.”

East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov said it was fortunate they were in a position to help their neighbors. 

“We’re glad that we could do that,” Mironov said. 

Kirson added residents commented on how good East Windsor’s water tasted, even though it’s the same water source.
