Hightstown's property taxes are slightly above average for the state of New Jersey in 2012, but the increase in taxes between 2011 and 2012 was minimal.

The Borough's 0.8 percent tax hike was 0.9 percent lower than the state average tax hike of 1.7 percent.

Hightstown's tax bill is listed 195th out of 566 municipalities and the tax increase is listed as 390th, according to a Star-Ledger analysis.

The average total tax bill for Hightstown is $8,416, which is $545.72 higher than the average tax bill for municipalities in New Jersey.

The Star-Ledger reported noted that property taxes statewide rose 2.4 percent in 2011, the first year Christie’s 2 percent cap was in effect and it only rose 1.7 percent in 2012. The trend of lower increases could be reversed because of Hurricane Sandy, the report stipulated.
