The work is part of the New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today Friday that a new Route133/Hightstown Bypass bridge will be constructed over Route 33, east of the New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 8 in East Windsor.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is constructing the new bridge over Route 33 as part of a $35 million contract associated with the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program

On Friday night, contractor Ferreira-Crisdel JV shifted all Route 133 travel lanes to the right in both directions to establish a new work zone in the center portion of the highway over Route 33. Overnight single-lane closures will be necessary and the new work zone will be defined with concrete safety barrier.

The new Route 133 bridge is being built to support a grade separated, direct connection from Route 33 to the new Interchange 8 Toll Plaza. In order to connect the reconfigured Interchange 8 with the intersection of Routes 33 and 133, NJTA is also constructing new access ramps. The project will reconstruct local roadways along the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike. Drainage improvements, utility relocations, new lighting and traffic signal modifications are also included.

Construction began on the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program in 2009 and the entire project is expected to be complete in 2014.
