Program That Suspends Registrations of Toll Violators Becomes Permanent

The Pilot Program collected a total of $650,000.

A temporary program that suspended the registrations of toll violators on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway until they paid their fines was made permanent on Wednesday, The Asbury Park Press reports.

The temporary program suspended the registrations of 300 toll violators and resulted in the collection of $650,000, according to the report. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the Motor Vehicles Commission run the program.

The Pilot Program, enacted in April, 2012, suspended the registrations of anyone who owed $1,000 or more. The permanent program will impact anyone who owes “any significant sum,” according to the report.

The NJTA must reimburse MVC for administrative costs associated with the program, at a $50,000 a year cap, according to the report.

The program was part of a larger toll enforcement program, which set up cameras in all toll lanes to record toll violators’ license plate numbers, according to the report.
