Republican Hightstown Council Candidates Target Town's Image, Safety and Immigration

The candidates released these statements Wednesday morning.

As the Candidates for Hightstown Borough Council, John Archer and Skye Gilmartin are endeavoring to move Hightstown forward with a platform that focuses on:

  • Improved Public Image
  • Economic Viability
  • Public Safety

In light of these goals we believe that Hightstown's designation as a "Sanctuary City" needs to be addressed. We are forming an exploratory committee to assess public opinion; the pros and cons of the Borough either maintaining or rescinding this designation. If the committee determines that it is time for a change, we will do our part to encourage Council to take appropriate action.

"Hightstown is an ideal residential community with a thriving downtown. Unfortunately, the designation of being a 'Sanctuary City' has negatively impacted both Real Estate values and business potential. John and I believe that while cultural diversity is one of Hightstown unique assets; respect for the law, code enforcement, and all aspects of Public Safety are necessary to enable Hightstown to reach a greater potential of both economic and community stability. If we want to improve our Town, we need to improve our image." Skye Gilmartin

"As a longtime Public Safety Officer, I feel that this issue is of paramount importance;  not only for code enforcement, but also for many other legal issues which affect Hightstown's well-being. We feel that the time has come to address this volatile issue.  By changing the public perception, putting forth a more positive Public Image, we hope Hightstown will attract new businesses and residents. As a growing and prospering community, we look forward to improving our relationship with Mercer County as well as with our neighboring communities." John Archer
