Tips and Reminders for Flying During the Holidays

Some information from the Transportation Security Administration.

Flying during the holidays can be confusing with different restrictions and questions on what you can and cannot bring on the plane. But the Transportation Security Administration provided tips on their blog to help make the process a bit smoother.

Here are some of the reminders and restrictions from the TSA that Patch thought would be helpful to point out:

  • If you are 12 years old or under, you can leave your shoes on.
  • If you are traveling with a family and need more time to get through security, use the family-designated lane so you won’t feel rushed.
  • It is better to fly with unwrapped gifts. While wrapped gifts are permitted, TSA screeners can request they are opened to check the content.
  • Passengers are allowed one quart-sized sealable bag for liquids, gels and aerosols. Each container of liquid cannot exceed 3.4 oz. There is no limit to the number of containers, as long as they fit in the bag. This includes perfumes, nail polish and liquid makeup.
  • You are allowed to bring food, such as pies, bread, turkeys, on the plane as long as they are not liquid foods, such as gravy or cranberry sauce, which should be put in a checked bag.
  • Snow globes cannot be carried on the plane.

For a full list of what to know while traveling during the holidays, you can read the TSA blog or check with your individual airline.
