Township Committee Approves Performance-Based Salary Increases

Some Cranbury Township employees could see up to a 2 percent salary increase in 2012, however committee members and the mayor have taken a cut. 

There was $14,550 in the budget available for salary increases, but only $13,310 is being used, according to Township Administrator and Finance Director Denise Marabello. The increases do not apply to contract positions, eliminating positions including construction and police.

The increases are performance-based, and could be given in 1, 1.5 or 2 percent increases, effective April 1, Marabello said. Because the increases are effective April 1, the Township is saving about $660 this year by eliminating three months of increases.

Committee Member Jay Taylor said in 2010 there was a 10 percent decrease in salaries for the township committee, and in 2011 their salary remained the same.

This year the mayor’s salary decreased from $6692.90 in 2011 to $6416.22 this year, and $5354.65 to $5133.50 for township committee members, according to Marabello. 

Two members of the public opposed the increases, which were approved at Monday's committee meeting, in light of the increase in taxes this year.

“I’m very disappointed in all of you to think that you raise taxes and then you go out and give an increase,” Tom Ingegneri, an owner of the , told the Township Committee.
