Volunteer Retires from Cranbury Planning Board, Environmental Commission

The Township Committee passed a resolution detailing his work and thanking him for his service.

A man who has put in numerous volunteer hours in Cranbury, serving on both the Environmental Commission and Planning Board, was recognized this week for his service after his announcement that he would be resigning from the boards.

The Township Committee passed a resolution in Dietrich “Dee” Wahlers honor, thanking him for his volunteer service to the Township.

“If it wasn’t for the minds and sound mind of Dee Wahlers and others like him, Cranbury wouldn’t be what it is today,” said Mayor David Cook.

Wahlers served on the environmental commission and planning board from 1980 to 1986, and as a township committee member from 1987 to 1989, according to the resolution passed July 23. Him and his wife, Barbara, then moved to Hopewell Township and served on their planning board from May 2001 to Dec. 2004.

In 2006 the Wahlers moved back to Cranbury and he then was appointed the environmental commission representative on the planning board from 2007 to 2012.

During his tenure, Wahlers had his hands in improving several areas of the Township, including working on the master plan, and serving as the chairperson for the turnpike tree subcommittee which obtained a grant for the trees that were planted on the Hagerty property, according to the resolution.

Planning Board Chairman Allan Kehrt said the board expressed their gratitude at the last meeting, and gave Wahlers his nameplate to keep.
