Video: Community Members Become 'Teacher for a Day'

Putting the day job aside, community leaders, business owners and elected officials were among those who stepped into a new set of shoes for the day, as teachers.

Around 20 participants, including a state assemblyman, freeholders, mayors, council and board of education members, business owners and reporters (including East Windsor Patch Local Editor Ashley Peskoe), participated in the 'Teacher for a Day' program last Thursday.

East Windsor Education Association President Ellen Ogintz said the New Jersey Education Association started the 'Teacher for a Day' program, "whose purpose was to bring community members into the schools so they could walk a mile in a teachers shoes and see what happens, and see that there are happy kids in these schools, because the teachers are excellent."

The guest teachers taught either a provided lesson plan, or one they made themselves, for an entire day with a cooperating teacher guiding them.
