East Windsor School Board Recognizes Elementary Science Fair Participants

Elementary students throughout the district had the chance to compete.

The East Windsor Regional Board of Education recognized 48 students who participated in the first elementary science fair at its Monday meeting.  Students in grades three through five from the , , and schools participated in the fair and winners at the district level were chosen to move on to compete in the Mercer County Science and Engineering Fair. 

The young scientists covered a wide range of subjects in their projects.  Some of them included an underwater volcano, a project showing the effect of salt on snow and ice, one entitled “veggie power,” a kinetic friction project and one that discussed a strawberry’s DNA.

First place: Neil Arora, Christian Charache, Casey Weber and Samantha Colella

Second place: Harish Rabindran, Vikram Srinath, Gillian Roberts, and Anitej Biradar

Third place: Kaitlyn Riggio, Alisha Das, Manas Sood, and Hamza Lodhi

Honorable mention recognition was awarded to Nathan Diller, Srihari Subramanian, Shreya Shah, Risheek Somu, and Katrina Kosmides. 

These 17 students then competed in the 58th Annual Mercer County Science and Engineering Fair, which was held at Rider University on March 15.  At that fair, Hamza Lodhi received an award for Superior Achievement in the Elementary Division as well as the Elementary Most Superior Award from Rider University; Casey Weber received an award for Outstanding Achievement in the Elementary Division; Christian Charache and Neil Arora received awards for Meritorious Achievement in the Elementary Division, and Anitej Biradar received an award for Honorable Mention in the Elementary Division. 

Darlene Nemeth, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Programs in the district, worked to coordinate the elementary science fair and the students’ participation in the fair at Rider University. At the meeting, she thanked the parents and students for taking the opportunity to be curious and discover science. 

“It was our first time competing, so we did a really great job,” she said.
