Dr. Anita Hill to Speak at Mercer County Community College May 2
West Windsor, NJ: The Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey (ABWL) and the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) present “Reimaging Equality, an Evening with Anita Hill” on Wednesday, May 2. The talk takes place at Mercer County Community College’s Conference Center located on the West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Dr. Hill will speak on the impact of the housing crisis on women and minorities. A cocktail reception takes place from 6 to 7 p.m., with the lecture to follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit HomeFront, a charity devoted to ending homelessness.
MCCC Dean and James Kerney Campus Provost Monica L. Weaver, who was instrumental in planning the event, said, “Anita Hill is a passionate and thoughtful educator championing issues of equality. She is a legendary figure in the feminist movement who influenced a generation of women to stand behind their convictions.”
Weaver observes that this is an important lecture for students, as many do not remember the Clarence Thomas hearings or the national debate on sexual harassment in the workplace that brought Professor Hill into the spotlight. “These same students have benefited from that discourse and the policy and administrative practices that resulted,” she said.

In her lecture, Hill will share information from her new book “Reimaging Equality: Stories of Gender, Race, and Finding Home.” Weaver says, “Hill’s book addresses something that this generation does know – the widespread financial impact and economic downturn resulting from subprime mortgages, corporate bailouts and rampant unemployment.”
