MCCC to Host “Relationship and Domestic Violence Seminar” April 12

West Windsor, NJ:  The community is invited to a seminar at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) that will address relationship and domestic violence issues. The college’s Criminal Justice Club and Student Success Center have invited women who are experts in their fields to speak on Tuesday, April 12, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Communications Building, Room 107, on the West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.  The seminar is free and open to the public.

Topics for discussion include healthy relationships, the cycle of violence, dating violence, stalking, restraining orders, and where to get help.

The speakers will be Stacy Geurds, Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor and Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit; Heidi Mueller, Domestic Violence Response Coordinator at Womanspace ; Alisha Philips, Victim's Witness Advocate at the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office; Liz Bondurant, MCCC Professor of Criminal Justice and the former police chief in Plainsboro, New Jersey, and Dr. Valerie Brooks-Klein, MCCC Psychologist and Counselor.

"Mercer County Community College is highly committed to working on issues that potentially affect our students,” says Brooks-Klein. “Fostering more positive communication and coping skills can prevent violence and help to create healthier relationships.  Being able to ask for help is often one of the most important steps.  This seminar will present some of our county resources as well as our resources at the college.”
