Hightstown High School Welcomes Class of 2016

The high school hosted their freshmen orientation Wednesday, welcoming new students with a picnic and prizes

Hightstown High School welcomed almost 400 incoming freshmen during Wednesday’s orientation.

The day began business as usual for a high school orientation, as administration discussed expectations, rules, and procedural activities, and students met their teachers and school administration, walked through their schedules, and located their classrooms and lockers. 

The orientation ended with a meet-and-greet picnic lunch cooked and served by East Windsor Regional School District Superintendent Dr. Edward Forsthoffer, school Principal Alix Arvizu, members of the district Central Administration, and most of the high school teachers.

The administration and staff served typical summer fare while talking with and getting to know the students on a personal basis.

Local politicians, business leaders, and cultural leaders assisted in the food preparation.

Students were encouraged to meet and talk with Mayors Janice Mironov and Steve Kirson, County Freeholders Andrew Koontz, Anthony Carabelli, and Samuel Frisby, Assemblyman Dan Benson, community leaders Dr. David Abalos and Al Werner, Councilman John Zoller, as well as owners and managers of over 16 local businesses. 

The orientation was free to all students thanks to contributions from local businesses and community leaders.

Major local contributors who provided food and beverages included , Canal’s Discount Beverages, , , , McCaffrey’s Food Market, , Pechter’s Bread Company, , , , , , and . Contributions to offset non-food picnic costs were received from and .

In addition to the outdoor picnic, businesses provided prizes that were awarded to dozens of students and adult volunteers.

Student volunteers from the Hightstown football team, cheerleading team, and student government were on hand all day to assist new students with directions and to answer questions.

This is the fifth year that the East Windsor Regional School District, in conjunction with local businesses, has offered the incoming freshmen an orientation prior to the official start of school.

School district officials said they are very grateful for the local businesses that worked with the Hightstown High School Administrative Team to help deliver a no-cost and enjoyable first experience at the high school for incoming freshmen.
