Hightstown High Golf 12th in Mercer County Tournament

Kerner, Bonacorda shoot round of 97.

Playing at the Mercer Oaks course Wednesday, the golf team placed 12th in the Mercer County Tournament.

West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional High School South won with a round of 309. Hightstown was 12th in the 15-team field with a round of 393.

"I thought we did well," Hightstown Coach Dee Pasternick said. "We don't have a lot of experience playing 18 holes. They even moved back the tees to make it more challenging. All things considered, I think we did well."

Danielle Kerner and Nick Bonacorda both had rounds of 97. Collin Hurler shot a 99, Will Grelis a 100 and Alex Gordon a 107.

"I thought those were good scores for us," Pasternick said. "This is a very young team. Danielle, Nick and Collin are the only ones with previous experience. Danielle and Collin are juniors and Nick is a sophomore. And last year, Nick and Collin only played in about half the matches. We're young and we're still learning."

Kerner will also get to compete in the Mercer County Tournament for girls on May 26th. Kerner placed third in the girls MCT last year.

Hightstown is 4-6 on the regular season.

Hightstown has wins against Ewing, Robbinsville, Pemberton and Nottingham. It still has two matches left with Princeton and Hamilton West. It also needs to play Nottingham and Trenton.

"I think 4-6 is a good record for us," Pasternick said. "We only lost to really good teams. We beat the teams we had a good chance at beating."
