Hightstown High Names Sports Award Winners

The Rams give nods to hard work on and off the field.

The athletic department completed another season recently. Thanks to the exploits of and , the athletic season lasted almost until .

Guzman and Ahmed advanced to track's Meet of Champions. Other teams won conference titles. Many athletes were honored with All-County nods.

"Overall, I thought it was a pretty good year," said Don Hess, who coaches girls' soccer and track and boys' basketball at the school. "We won some conference championships and had some great kids."

Every year, Hightstown High honors its own with its annual sports awards.

"[Hightstown High School Athletic Director] Gary Bushelli really does a great job with the awards," Hess said.

"I think it's great they have these types of awards for the kids. They are so dedicated and work so hard, you have to have something for them. It's nice to show the kids that you appreciate their efforts."

were named the Hightstown High Athletes of the Year.

Hightstown also named six scholar/athletes—a boy and girl for each sports season. Those winners were Zachary Shuler, Monali Patel, Megan Mitchell, David Soldo, Bradley Russian and Jessica Lenzo. The award is a popular among many of the teachers in the school.

"This senior class was really dedicated," Hess said.

The Most Valuable Player for football was Kevin Monahan. Abdul Namoya and Wallace Cooper earned the Coach's Award.

The MVPs for boys' soccer were Kevin Florence and James Parrish. Henry Suleski was given the Coach's Award. In girls' soccer, Jessica Lenzo was the MVP and Kelly McGlew won the Coach's Award.

In cross country, Luke Dermody (boys) and Megan Mitchell (girls) were the MVPs. Tyler Foss (boys) and Nikita Khandelwal (girls) won the Coach's Award.

In field hockey, Sara Goldman and Elyse Hoekstra were the MVPs. Allison Mitchell won the Coach's Award.

In girls' tennis, Ankita Naraparaju was the MVP and Ericka Asis won the Coach's Award.

In cheerleading, Coral Kochis was the MVP. Nicole Trulby and Adrena Desmond won the Coach's Award.

The MVPs for the swimming teams were Aziza Ahmed (girls), Stephanie Lauer (girls) and Scott Vitabile (boys). Steven Vitabile won the Coach's Award.

The MVPs for basketball were Qwanza Harper (boys), Sam Lopez (boys) and Jenna Marcus (girls). Lindsay Redfern won the Coach's Award.

The MVPs for wrestling were Marcus Lawrence and Sean LeBlanc. The Coach's Award went to Joseph DeCristofaro.

The MVPs for indoor track were Tyler Foss (boys) and Dana Obst (girls). The Coach's Awards went to Megan Mitchell (girls), Kelsey Lewis (girls) and Davis Soldo (boys).

The MVP of the ice hockey team was Sam Badillo. William Clingerman won the Coach's Award.

The MVP of the golf team was Danielle Kierner. William Grelis won the Coach's Award.

The MVP of the  outdoor track teams were Tyler Foss (boys), Angel Guzman (boys) and Kelsey Lewis (girls). The Coach's Award wemt to Lindsay Redfern (girls) and Lydia Walsh (girls).

The MVP of the baseball team was Jose Lopez. Kevin Lenart won the Coach's Award.

The MVP of the boys tennis team was Eric Trast. Jay Dave won the Coach's Award.

The MVPS of the lacrosse teams were Ryan Bland (boys) and Carolyn Noebels (girls). Tyler Malsbury and Darien McPhail-Milliard won the Coach's Award for the boys. Janyl Vantura won the Coach's Award for the girls.

Hoby Baker, Javier Lopez, Rose Fiore, Jacqueline Ward, Christoper Goodspeed, Fabian Tobito and Allison Mitchell won the Positive Impact award.

The Hall of Fame Scholarships went to Tyler Foss and Lindsay Redfern.

The Hightstown Pop Warner winners were Sarah Jacobson (cheerleading) and Troy Powell (football).

The Football Parents Scholarships went to Kevin Monahan and Sam Badillo.

The Robbie Miller Memorial Award went to Lydia Walsh and James Parrish.

The Joel Fischer Memorial Award went to Aaron Hernandez-Navarro.

The John Alexandersen Memorial Award went to Sergio Ojeda and Janyl Ventura.

The Behar Surveying Associates Cross Country Award went to Alex Prunchak.

The George Warshany Memorial Award went to Gavin Edgerton.

The Virginia Mabee Damutz Award went to Robert Raymond.

The Stephanie Dara Berman Memorial Award went to Cheyenne Dermody.

The Donald Murphy Memorial Award went to Kevin Monahan.

Officially,  pursuit of all the 2011-12 award winners starts with training camps in August. However, there will be numerous Hightstown High athletes involved in leagues over the summer.

"Looks like next year will be another good one," Hess said.
