Rebecca Soni Wins Silver Medal at 2012 London Olympics

The Plainsboro native also won three medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Twenty-five-year-old Rebecca Soni is taking home a silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Soni came in with the time of 1:05.55, falling .08 seconds behind Lithuania’s 15-year-old Ruta Meilutyte who took the gold with a time of 1:05.47.

At start of the race it appeared there was a malfunction with the starting gun, but no one was disqualified.

Later this week Soni will compete in heats for the 200-meter breaststroke and the 4x100 medley relay.

Four years ago Soni took home the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics for the 200-meter breaststroke, and two silver medals in the 100-meter breaststroke and 4x100-meter medley relay.

“Right now, I’m not focusing on the medals or winning every event, I can’t get too wrapped up in all that. I’m trying to approach it like it’s just another meet,” Soni told the Star-Ledger on Sunday.

Born in Freehold and later moved to Plainsboro, Soni graduated West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North in 2005 and now calls Manhattan Beach, Ca. home, according to her website. She qualified for the 100-meter breaststroke finals with the time of 1:05.98 on Sunday.

In 2008, Soni set a world Record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Beijing Olympics.

Hey, EW Patch News Alert people....PERHAPS...just PERHAPS some of us are going to watch the swimming tonight and DON'T want to have a spoiler?? Perhaps "breaking news" alerts aren't really about sports but about road closings and fires and the like?? Every reputable news agency has been putting "spoiler" in the title of their news items so those of us who want to watch it play out have the opportunity to do so without knowing the outcome in advance. shame on you.

Let's spend 1.5 billion dollars to cover the Olympics and air everything on a tape delay. But we'll top it off by airing a commercial on a feature for tomorrow's Today in which we'll look at Gold Medal winner Missy Franklin and family. Now back to tape delayed coverage and...Franklin's 100m Backstroke. In which she wins said gold in front of 14 fans.
