Services for Brandon Holt, 6, Friday and Saturday

St. Joseph Parish and School in Toms River remember Holt, who was fatally shot Monday, as a 'exuberant, energetic and happy student'

Services for the 6-year-old Toms River boy who was fatally shot by a 4-year-old neighbor while the pair were playing will be held Friday and Saturday. Visitation for Brandon Holt will be held Friday, April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., as well as Saturday, April 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals in Toms River.   A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, according to Holt’s obituary. Whitfield McCarthy was an avid swimmer, swimming up until the age of 90.

Dorothea Whitfield McCarthy, formerly of East Windsor, died on April 2, 2013, at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, under the care of Acacia Hospice, at the age of 94. Born in London, England, to Henry John and Lillian Chandler, she trained as a nurse before coming to the United States as the fiancee of George Whitfield, who she met while he was stationed in England during World War II. They were married in April 1947 in New York City. She resided in Staten Island, NY, from 1949 to 1992. She was active in Girl Scouts, her church, and served as the president of her children's school PTOs. She returned to college and obtained a B.S. degree in psychology in 1977. Pardella lived in East Windsor since 1979.

Helen F. Pardella of East Windsor passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at The Gardens at Monroe Rehabilitation Center in Monroe. She was 92 years old. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided in Woodbridge until moving to East Windsor in 1979. Pardella was employed as a packer with Swift Ice Cream in Woodbridge before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge; and the Order of the Eastern Star, Raritan Chapter #58. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Pardella, in 1992; a step daughter, Maryann Yaros; her parents Albert and Pauline Kozlowski Olshieski; two sisters, Alice Johnson and Jeanette Kowalczyk; and three brothers, Stanley Olshieski, Edward Olshieski and Thaddeus Olshieski. Angelo Bavoso lived in Cranbury for the past nine years.

Angelo Bavoso, 101, of Cranbury passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, in the Arcadia Nursing Home in Hamilton. Born in Manhattan, NY, Angelo was a resident of the Bronx, NY, prior to moving to Tuckerton, NJ, where he lived for 32 years. Angelo resided in Cranbury for the past nine years. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in the Bronx. He was an expediter for the U.S. Postal Service in the Main New York City post office and retired after 37 years of service. He was a former member of St. Theresa R.C. Church in Tuckerton and was currently a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Hightstown, where he was a member of the Anthonians. Shaw-Kahrs has lived her entire life in New Jersey.

Maureen A. Shaw-Kahrs, 47, of East Windsor died on Monday, March 25, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital of Hamilton. Born in Sayreville, NJ, Maureen lived her entire life in the New Jersey area. Shaw-Kahrs loved to travel and was in an endless pursuit to see as much of the world as she could in her lifetime. Maureen was a wonderful, devoted wife and mother. Shaw-Kahrs was a graduate of Rutgers University and received her MBA from Pace University. Maureen was a CPA and currently was employed as the tax director with Rhodia Inc. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Shaw. Michael L. Block, 66, of Roosevelt died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at New York Medical Center. Born in the Bronx, NY; he was a lifetime resident of Roosevelt. Michael was the co-owner of East Windsor Floor Covering, which was founded in 1955 by his father. He was a 1965 graduate of Hightstown High School and was a member of Congregation Anshei in Roosevelt and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Pearl Block. Hightstown Resident Isabella Austell Dies at 94

Austell worked for Sunnyfield Nursing Home for many years.

Isabella U. Austell, 94, of Hightstown, N.J., passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Robert Wood Johnson University at Hamilton. Isabella Urselina March Austell was born Jan. 13, 1919, in St. Catherine, Jamaica, to the now late John and Mabel (Bernard) March. In 1957, Isabella relocated to Manchester, England, where she worked as a seamstress and later lived in London, England, before moving to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived for many years. Isabella met David Austell at a wedding in Trenton, N.J. and sometime later they were united in marriage, finally making Hightstown her home. Isabella was a dedicated and loving wife. She was a caring and nurturing person who developed loving and lifelong friendships. For many years she was employed …

Funeral Services for East Windsor Rutgers Student

East Windsor resident Andrew Gottfried, 19, died in his dorm room at Rutgers University on Friday.

Andrew M. Gottfried of East Windsor, 19, died Friday, March 15. Gottfried was found dead in his Rutgers dorm room at around 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. He as living in Perry Hall on the Cook Campus of the University in New Brunswick. Police are investigating into the death, but the initial police report indicated that there was no foul play involved, according to an NJ.com report. Calls will take place on Thursday, March 21, from 4-7 p.m. with the Service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are being prepared by Barlow & Zimmer Funeral Home in Hightstown.

Cranbury Obituary: Pauline Zirch, 92

Zirch died at The Elms of Cranbury on Sunday, March 10.

Pauline M. Zirch, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at The Elms of Cranbury. She was 92. She lived in Highland Park, East Brunswick, Milltown and most recently Kendall Park. Mrs. Zirch worked for Johns Manville in North Brunswick for many years, before retiring in 1985. She was Past President of the Milltown Senior Citizens, and State President and Local President of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Pauline loved her family, who could do no wrong in her eyes. She enjoyed entertaining and having fun. She was an avid traveler who loved good food and people in general. Later in life, she became a passionate reader and collector of books and movies.
