Senior Miranda Contreras-Peterson was recognized during last Monday’s Board of Education meeting for her accomplishment
During the Dec. 10 East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education meeting, Miranda Contreras-Peterson, a senior at Hightstown High School, was recognized for being chosen to perform in an All Eastern Honors Ensemble. She is one of 780 students chosen from 12 northeastern states and the District of Columbia who will join the ensemble. Contreras-Peterson will perform with the All Eastern Treble Choir, an ensemble of 120 female voices. She will perform at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford, Conn., in April, 2013 as part of the National Association for Music Education Eastern Division Conference. Third-grader Daniel Wersching was recognized during last Monday’s Board of Education meeting
At the Dec. 10 East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education meeting, Walter C. Black Elementary School third-grader Daniel Wersching was recognized for winning second place in the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Anti-Bullying Awareness Art Contest in the Elementary 3-5 Division. “It was clear to the judges that the students who participated in this contest took the project very seriously, and their art work spoke out strongly against bullying,” stated a news release from the district. Kreps Middle School awarded 8th grade athletes with three awards for the spring season. The Cougar Award was given to students that showed outstanding play on the field, outstanding academics and served as a role model to all students, according to Samantha Rozycki, 8th grade assistant principal and athletic director. Two Athletic Dedication Awards were also given, one for athletes who played three seasons of sports over the course of the 8th grade, and one for athletes who played sports each season over their three years in middle school. The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey (IIABNJ) awarded Jerry Ford, a vice president at Allen & Stults Insurance in Hightstown, with the Howard Kucher Volunteer of the Year Award, according to a news release. Ford said Monday that he believes his work with a national program called InVEST helped him achieve the Volunteer of the Year award. The program helps students in school get training to eventually work in the insurance field. In New Jersey, Ford heads up the program, and has helped establish InVEST at Mercer County Community College.
