Hightstown Construction Questions To Be Answered

The Hightstown Borough Engineer and a rep from the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be at Tuesday's council meeting.

The Hightstown Borough Council will discuss the route 33 bridge project at tonight's meeting to help inform residents more about the construction.  Someone from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Carmela Roberts, the Borough Engineer, will be attending the council meeting, according to council member Selena Bibens. The discussion was delayed after a NJDOT rep was not able to attend the last council meeting. Bibens has told Patch she asked for this discussion to help with any confusion community members may have. Any member of the public with a question about the project can email council members, Bibens said.

Van Strikes Construction Beam on Turnpike Causing Heavy Morning Delays

All lanes have since reopened.

A construction crane lifting a steel beam on the Turnpike Wednesday was struck by a van causing heavy morning delays, state police said. A white Ford Econoline van struck the beam, which sheared off part of the roof, and caused the van to overturn. The accident happened around 7:54 a.m. in the northbound lanes near milepost 67.5 in East Windsor, Kay said. …

Superior Court Upholds East Windsor Age-Restricted Housing Ruling

A judge upheld the Planning Board's denial of an application to remove an age restriction from a planned development.

A Mercer County Superior Court judge ruled Monday to uphold the East Windsor Planning Board’s resolution to deny Red Bank-based Robertson Douglas Group (RDG) the opportunity to build non age-restricted housing in the township. In 2005, the township's Planning Board gave approval for a plan that allowed the RDG the right to build a 109-unit, age-restricted (55 and over), single-family home development. However, under a July 2009 state law, developers of age-restricted developments that have been approved, but not yet constructed, can apply to remove age limits on their development. In October of 2010, the East Windsor's Planning Board rejected the conversion application, which called for the construction of the 109 single-family homes with …

The work is part of the New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today Friday that a new Route133/Hightstown Bypass bridge will be constructed over Route 33, east of the New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 8 in East Windsor. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is constructing the new bridge over Route 33 as part of a $35 million contract associated with the NJ Turnpike Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Program.  On Friday night, contractor Ferreira-Crisdel JV shifted all Route 133 travel lanes to the right in both directions to establish a new work zone in the center portion of the highway over Route 33. Overnight single-lane closures will be necessary and the new work zone will be defined with concrete safety barrier. The new Route 133 bridge is being …

This is awesome that all this construction is going on to make it easier for the community to commute around and get where they need to be a lot faster. It will also be a lot more efficient for those who are always driving and traveling. One thing that needs to be looked at though is those big concrete barriers. People should make sure they know where they are going so there is no accidents!   more ›
