Two Hightstown Police Officers Recognized for DWI Arrests

Patrolman Frank Jimenez and Sgt. Mark Niro were awarded the Top Gun award.

Two Hightstown police officers were recognized for taking drunk drivers off the road in 2011.  The Top Gun award was given to Patrolman Frank Jimenez and Sgt. Mark Niro, according to Police Director James Le Tellier. In 2011, Jimenez had 21 DWI arrests and Niro had 15. “They are both good officers who aggressively protect the public from dunk drivers,” Le Tellier said. Police chiefs across the state submit names to the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety who reviews the applications and selects the officers who will be recognized. Jimenez once ripped me out of my car for pulling into my own driveway because he thought I was trying to run from him. He then proceeded to search my car without any kind of warrant (or even verbal permission from me) in my own driveway. Once he realized I was at my own house and had no drugs or alcohol, he gave me a nice speeding ticket for doing 29 in a 25. Great guy. Great waxed eyebrows. …   more ›

Hightstown Police Blotter: Three DWI Arrests

Hightstown Police reported three drunken driving arrests this week. Man Charged With DWI After Allegedly Speeding Emar Mitchell, 35, of Peekskill, N.Y., was charged June 18 with driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, reckless driving, careless driving, driving while suspended, speeding and improper passing. Hightstown Police said they stopped him at 2:03 a.m. on Route 130 after seeing him speeding on Franklin Street. Police said they smelled alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which Mitchell failed, and that they measured his blood-alcohol level at 0.10 percent. He was released to a family member. Four Teenagers Charged in Alleged Joyride

East Windsor Police have charged a group of four teenage boys, ranging in ages from 14 to 17, with unlawful taking of an auto. Most facing additional charges. Police said they saw the boys speeding and driving erratically in a black Volvo at 2:28 a.m. June 19 on Jamestown Road. When police tried to stop the vehicle, they said the driver and one passenger ran away on foot, while the other two passengers attempted to flee but were immediately caught. Police said they soon located the remaining fleeing passenger and then the driver. That passenger, police said, was under the influence of marijuana and had a bag of the substance on him. Police Blotter: Three Charged With DWI in Hightstown

Hightstown Police reported three arrests this past week for driving while intoxicated and related charges. Police said they stopped him at 1:52 a.m. on Franklin Street for driving with no taillights on and driving a vehicle with only the driver’s side brake light functioning. Once stopped, police said they smelled alcohol and administered field sobriety tests, which Hunt failed. In custody, Hunt refused to provide breath samples, according to a police report. He was later released to a friend. Police said they stopped him at 2:48 a.m. on Mercer Street after seeing him nearly strike a curb while taking a turn. Police: Four Alcohol-Related Arrests in One Day

The following arrest information was supplied by the police departments of East Windsor Township and Hightstown Borough. It does not indicate a conviction.

East Windsor and Hightstown police reported a total of three drunk driving arrests and one charge of underage possession of alcohol, all filed May 28. Kelly Odenheimer, 38, of Voelbel Road, East Windsor, was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, and careless driving. Hightstown Police said they stopped her at 11:43 p.m. on Dutch Neck Road after seeing her drive over a cement center island in the downtown. Police said she smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. At police headquarters, her blood-alcohol level reportedly registered 0.13 percent. East Windsor Police File DWI and Related Charges

Drunk driving arrests in the week leading up to Memorial Day.

East Windsor Police last week reported charging several people with driving while intoxicated. Police said they responded to Greenwich Court at 1:20 a.m. for a noise complaint and saw a 2010 Toyota parked with its engine running and playing its music at an extremely loud volume. Police said Hussain’s eyes were bloodshot and water and that his speech was slurred. He was arrested after field sobriety tests. Police said they responded to Wyckoff Mills Road at 11:57 p.m. for a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the street. Police said they arrived to find a 2000 Dodge stopped in the road and facing the wrong way. The driver, Espinoza, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes, according to a police report. Accidents and Sting Lead to Drug Charges

East Windsor Police reported the accidents, while Hightstown Police conducted the sting.

Area police reported three drug-related arrests over the past week. East Windsor Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Etra Road near Philyet Drive at 6:25 p.m. and found one of the drivers, Avila, smelled of alcohol and marijuana and had slurred speech. Police said they arrested him after field sobriety tests and that they found a bag of marijuana in his vehicle. Hightstown Police said that at 2:58 p.m. they saw him conduct a drug transaction as a result of a drug sting East Windsor Police said they responded to a report of a southbound 2010 Nissan speeding on Lake Drive at 12:46 a.m., stopped Luzzi on Milford Road near the Conair building, and smelled burnt marijuana in the vehicle.
